We’re longtime admirers of Terrain’s sprawling shops, which occupy a unique retail niche with their emphasis on stylish garden accoutrements for outdoors and in. Let’s take a look around the newest location, which also includes a restaurant and an event space with a soaring glass ceiling.
Above: The six-acre Devon Yard complex developed by Philadelphia-based URBN also is home to Terrain’s sister brands: Anthropologie, BHLDN, and the restaurant Amis Trattoria also are tenants.
Above: Terrain sells plants, both for indoor and outdoor gardens, but that’s where its similarity to a typical garden shop or nursery center ends. Terrain’s seasonal selection is collected, arranged, and often paired with complementary planters.
Above: Coral bells, late-season annuals, and shrubs with red-tinged foliage are displayed together as an object lesson. They would look just as happy grouped together in a garden bed.
Above: Container gardens and ceramic planters are on display with an inventive mix of edible and perennial plants.
At the new shop, Terrain offers “on-site container design.”
Above: Like Terrain’s other shops, the Devon Yard complex includes a restaurant where the menu changes seasonally.
Above: On the menu, a harvest bowl with quinoa, summer vegetables, kale, falafel, and tahini vinaigrette.
Above: Also in the complex is Terrain Gardens, a wedding and event space that includes a walled outdoor garden, an indoor reception room, and a covered porch (shown) suitable for cocktail receptions.
Above: The high-ceilinged event space has reclaimed wood floors, farmhouse tables, and string lights someone else already hung for you. Guest capacity: 150.
Above: Sunlight pours in through the skylight; lucky plants.
Terrain’s Devon Yard shop is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays. See more information at Terrain at Devon Yard.
