We predict the next big trend in outdoor living will be mud pie kitchens. Admit it. You want one:

Photographs by Ginny Sheller.

Above: When we spotted this ingenious DIY project, via Rhythm of the Home, it was all we could do to contain ourselves from running straight home to turn some old crates upside down to create "cabinets" and a "stove." For step-by step instructions, visit Rhythm of the Home.

Above: Any unbreakables you already own—miniature muffin tins, galvanized buckets, that old dented pie dish—will perfectly complement the rustic vibe. For seating: tree stumps.

Above: Fresh flowers to "ice" the cake.

Above: Whisks and spoons to beat the batter. If you have a galvanized tub, fill it with water and use it as a sink.

Above: Rhythm of the Home's for urban gardeners: Buy a bag of topsoil if you don't have any dirt of your own.
